Driver and Dispatchers

I found the comment below on the Linkedin.com site. I think it is very interesting. Can you put yourself into one of these categories?

As a Fleet owner for many years. I see communication as the biggest problem between the two. Dispatchers not paying attention to driver requests like home time especially and Drivers not understanding the freight availability and the markets they are going into about the time they want to be at home. Fleets could do a whole lot better with time management around the driver being home issue.

Drivers come down to a about 3 categories

Fire and forget - guys you give instructions to and they do what they need to do and only call in a emergency

The questioner - These guys call with questions all the time and you need slight hand holding .

The for lack of better term the cry babies - These you have to call 2 or 3 times a day to make sure they are on track with their assigned tasks .......

Dispatchers come also in 3 categories ....

Straight business - Guy has been in the business long enough he could work 4 hours to do a 8 hour job. Gets his work done !

The Counselor - Works his whole 8 hours to do what the 4 hour guy does. Also on the phone way to long with the drivers and customers talking about whatever .

The Lazy - These guys rely on technology to do their jobs, are not aggressive freight finders and generally are in the dispatcher seat to collect a paycheck. Big Fleets have these desk jockeys in abundance !

again just as I see it
