The Yo-Yo of Diesel Fuel Prices

Diesel fuel prices looked reasonable a couple of weeks ago, for that matter so did gas prices. DOE diesel fuel prices were around $3.64 a gallon and looked like they would go lower still. What has changed not a lot really from 4 weeks ago when fleet fuel prices were lower. The best way to say it would be to say the little things have changed. Oil companies usually start to ramp up storage of diesel fuel in May. Since the diesel fuel prices in May were low they delayed doing so in case the market went lower.... Read More

Diesel Fuel and Gas Price Doomsday Probably Not

Doomsday was at our door for much higher diesel fuel prices and gas prices with several refinery closures that we’re do to happen. It looks like things might be saved as Delta Airline in a very unusual move has bought the Trainer terminal from Phillips 66.

This means diesel fuel and gas will flow through this refinery. Delta bought it to have jet fuel flow through the terminal. They believe they are buying a billion dollars worth of equipment for $150 million.... Read More

Diesel Fuel Prices Going to Break You’re Fueling Budget

What is going on with diesel fuel prices? Let me try and give you my 2 cents but please don’t shoot the messenger.

I am sure you have all been reading or hearing about why the price of crude oil is over $100 and could go a lot higher. This has caused diesel fuel prices and gas prices headed well over $4 a gallon in some parts of the country. We hear the same things and honestly I don’t know where the price of fuel will go.... Some Things Stay the Same, Diesel Fuel Prices and Gas Prices Change

How high will diesel fuel prices and gas prices get and what your company could do.

If this feels like 2008 when crude oil blasted to $148 a barrel, diesel fuel prices were over $4.85 and gas prices were close to $4.25, it’s not. It’s worse according to several fuel experts. Why you ask yourself as you see your company’s profits being pumped away on your fuel card. It’s a little like the weather, why is it 65 degrees and sunny one day and 18 degrees the next day. Diesel Fuel Prices Are Falling, But Why?

It's really hard to believe that diesel fuel prices and gas prices are falling, especially if your local gas station hasn't lowered prices yet. Ok, I realize that MOST of us have not seen the lower fleet fueling prices at the pump yet. This is basically because most retail locations are taking their time lowering their prices—and your fueling costs. But yesterday, in the fairly small town where I live, the price for gas at a low-cost retail station was down to $3.93 a gallon. A half mile away it was $4.09 a gallon, and half mile in the other direction it was $4.19 a gallon. Knowing the fueling market as well as I do I recognize that even that low-cost retail station is making a nice margin. The others are knocking it out of the park, but that isn't good for consumers. Keep watching, prices will drop down near you soon, fueling costs will get better, trust me.... Read More

The Sky is Falling, No That is Your Diesel Fuel Prices

Yes, crude oil had its biggest weekly loss in terms of dollars since 1983. 5 straight days of loss has brought crude oil down to a Friday close of $97.47 a barrel. You might ask yourself why are my diesel fuel prices still high? It will take a few weeks for it to hit the retail market. For the week crude lost almost $17 a barrel. For every dollar crude goes up or down it relates close to 3 cents a gallon for diesel fuel prices or gas prices. I hope a light bulb is going off in your head right now because yes a $17 loss to the barrel means diesel fuel prices should go down 51 cents per gallon and the same is true with gas.... Read More

Outsourcing Fuel Management

It certainly seems that "outsourcing" is the buzzword across most industries these days. Fleet fuel management is no exception. If you are the president, finance or operations manager, or even fuel manager at a fleet company, you should already know that now is the time to outsource your fuel management. I'm not talking about outsourcing to a company located outside of this country, say India or China. There are companies with fuel management experts located right here in the good ol' U-S of A. They have extensive experience with diesel fuel prices, fuel cards, mobile fueling and overall fuel management in almost every aspect of the business.... Read More

A Major Fuel Spill: Could it Happen to You?

Unless you've been living on Gilligan's Island with the Skipper and his crew you've certainly heard about the devastating oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. An explosion of the oil rig Deepwater Horizon last year killed eleven workers and spewed untold barrels of oil into Gulf waters. The full extent of the damage won't be known for years, maybe decades, but the repercussions will most certainly be enormous. But what can businesses like ours learn from this event?... Read More
